Blood, Sweat & Beers is a reminder of what a band can achieve when they are given free reign to make the music they want to make. Clocking in at just under 30 minutes, Blood, Sweat & Beers is only just longer than some prog rock EPs, but it packs so very much into its short running time that it leaves you wanting to put it on repeat. Two hours later and I still can't switch it off!

The Californian trio kicks of proceedings at a blistering pace with Buffalo and from there on out the energy stays frantic thoughout. This is one of few albums that I've heard recently that you can really get lost in. So much so that you can find yourself listening to one of the opening tracks and then with a small distraction, a wander of the mind, you can find yourself half way through the album with no idea how you got there. What you can be assured of though, wherever you end up, is quick riffs, raw and rasping vocals and hard drums.

It's hard to pick out tracks from this piece as it works so well in it's entirity as an album, but title track Blood, Sweat & Beers feels like the kind of song that could bring the roof down on any venue when played live and Swamp, the longest track on the album at 4 minutes and 50 seconds, opens with some doom style riffs before adding some punk elements and then heading back into the metal end of the musical spectrum. All 10 tracks bring something to the album, all slightly different, but all with a signature Throw The Goat sound.

Blood, Sweat & Beers proves that the change from four to three members has done nothing to soften them up or mellow them out. Full of Garage Inc. era, Metallica style punk-metal, it is the perfect follow up to their debut album, Black Mountain. If you want an album that doesn't pull it's punches and won't take up an entire afternoon, Blood Sweat & Beers is it.
