Forming in the late 80’s, over the years Swedish Rock’n’Rollers Backyard Babies have released seven studio albums. Previously, the band have toured with the likes of AC/DC and Motorhead. In 2009 the band released their sixth album in honour of their 20th anniversary, and the accompanying tour was rumoured to be their last. Despite this, in May 2014 the band announced they were to begin work on a new album, which led to the birth of Four By Four in August this year. With 26 years of experience in the game, Backyard Babies have unleashed an album that really shows some bands never lose their touch.

Track number one Th1rt3en Or Nothing was released as the first single from the album. The introduction is steady but in your face, before exploding into knock you off your feet riffs and some really intense drumming. The lyrics reflect a lifetime of working in the industry, the classic ‘sex drugs and rock and roll’.

I'm On My Way To Save Your Rock N' Roll follows up, as the bands third most listened to track on Spotify it’s no wonder the cross between classic rock and punk is so popular. This track follows a more fluent melody than the first, still keeping the party vibe, but in a sing your heart out way.

The album doesn’t lose touch throughout third track White Light District, and even when taking it down for slow ballad Bloody Tears.

Piracy and Never Finish Anythi are feel good tracks. These are the sort of songs you want to be seeing at a festival, with a beer in one hand and defending yourself against the pit with the other. The catchy vocal melodies and easy going riffs would be enough to keep the atmosphere going even in festival weather.

Wrapping up the album, Mirrors (Shall Be Broken) and Wasted Years keep the same optimistic party feel that is present throughout the entire record. The last track Walls throws some Country into what is already a cocktail of genres. The messy punk vocals compliment the lazy guitar riffs, and mid-way through the rock influences return to finish the album with a bang.

Aimée's recommended tracks: Never Finish Anythi & Walls
