My Second review for Mind Noise Network gives me a chance to sample something new, which is always good for me. Midnight Groove is the debut album from Cumbrian Rockers Heartbreak Remedy. Having toured nationwide in 2014 supporting bands such as The Last Vegas and The Quireboys, the quartet were also asked to perform at the Ibiza leg of Hard Rock Hell. Following two earlier EP’s, the band are now ready to release their first full length Album, due for general release on September 11th.

This is my first taste of Heartbreak Remedy, and I have to say I like what I hear.  Start up the first song Convoy, and you’ll immediately see there are no gentle introductions here. The first impression of the sound is of raw rock and roll; just plug in, turn up to 11, and rock! The guitar is Deep Purple style classic rock, but with a slightly punk infused vocal performance. It’s a little like The Ramones decided to sing while Malcolm Young hammers out the riffs! Already Gone, Cocked and Loaded, Tell Me Why, and All You’ll Ever Be all keep the licks coming relentlessly, before Girl At The Bar offers a Motley Crue-esq  sound.

There is a Skynyrd influenced feel to the guitar assault throughout Heartbreaker and Southside, before Rose provides a more relaxed ballad akin to classic Cinderella. If you are only here to crank it loud fear not, Perfect Crime picks the pace straight back up, where it remains firmly in place for the next two songs. Ice Queen has a very Black Crowes feel to it, particularly with the Wah infused main riff, and finally the quite stunning ballad Far Away to close things out.

The album doesn’t sound over produced or sterile, with a certain live rawness to the sound and tone. I don’t know if this was recorded as just 4 guys in a studio, but it certainly has that feel to it, and that adds to its charm. There are no Beyonce style 10 producers and countless overdubs on Midnight Groove, just 4 guys rocking! It is very easy to see why they have been a popular choice in the support slot, and why Hard Rock Hell invited them to join the road trip to Ibiza, these guys have energy and chops to spare.

Heartbreak Remedy are hitting the late summer festivals, and I would imagine will be lining up some slots for next year’s festival season. So make sure you get a good listen to Midnight Groove, you could well be seeing a lot of these guys in the near future!
