Every now and then a debut comes along that makes you think 'where the hell have these guys been?', That is exactly what Fizzy Blood have done with their debut EP, Feasts. Six tracks of the highest quality greet the ears and signal the beginning of a potentially glittering career.

Opening track Black Sheep sounds like something The Ordinary Boys would have put out if they had any sort of personality or talent. Vocalist Benji is a dead ringer for Preston, but with, you know, something about him, and manages contort his vocals to fit the tone of the bass infused riffs. Black Sheep is as good an opening track as you could hope for from a debut EP. Following it up with January Sun gives you the kind of opening to an album that veterans of the scene would be proud of. Instead, these novices have crafted a beginning to get excited about - feet will be tapping, heads will be bobbing and you'll find yourself immersed by the hypnotic cow bell. Once the riffs are pumped up, you can just feel the front row of their gigs belting out the desperation charged vocals along with the band, whilst also wondering if the band can match this intensity with their live shows?! (you can find out for yourself soon as they're heading out on tour).

Slither might invoke memories of Velvet Revolver, but this track isn't a cover. These guys seem to have found a niche market for themselves, somewhere between the pop punk and indie/alternative scenes, they're bringing the best of various genres and moulding them to their own personalities. Cue To Leave slows things down a bit and tones down the riffs, although the intensity remains throughout the track. It's refreshing to see a release focus so much on the clarity of everything, from the drumming to the vocals, with it all sounding polished but not over produced.

Patience throws you back into into the fore with the tempo returning before Queen Of Hearts signs off on the EP with a belter of a track and quite possibly the highlight of the EP. It has everything from intricate drumming to enticing vocals, with an intriguing riff and bassline thrown in to the mix. Whilst the lyrics in the chorus may be a bit cheesy, it feels like that wasn't an accident.

Fizzy Blood have made one of the best EPs of the year and in turn put themselves up there for the best debut release of the year. This is huge and if you aren't listening to these guys no, you're missing out.
