Up until now MNN has focused 100% on new music, and for good reason as the future of music kind of relies on it. That is all changing now as a re-issue of an album from one of the greatest vocalists the rock/metal universe has ever known feels like the right time to take a look back. Now, personally I've never been a big fan of reissuing albums, it's always felt a bit 'money grabbing', but the chance to go back and relive an album I wasn't overly fond of originally and see how it fares now is one I couldn't turn down.

So onto the album and artist. Well, if you haven't heard a song featuring Chris Cornell in the past 3 decades you've probably been living a very sheltered life. The frontman of the sensational Soundgarden and the frustratingly short-lived Audioslave, Cornell's vocals have been the soundtrack to many a youth. Does Euphoria Morning live up to those other projects? Well it's hard to directly compare as the creative elements of both bands aren't there, but it is a very strong piece of work.

Lyrically, Euphoria Morning is written to near perfection and with that taking Cornell's vocal range and exploiting every inch of it. Sweet Euphoria, Disappearing One and Follow My Way are good examples of this, all three could be Soundgarden tracks if the guitars were dirtier and the drums heavier. But Soundgarden tracks they are not and each has a distinctive feel.

The variation on show on this album is most impressive with Wave Goodbye having more soulful undertones, Can't Change Me opening with the paciest track of the affair and Preaching The End Of The World genuinely feeling like the world might be ending. Really, put some headphones on and close your eyes. A genuinely emotional track.

So, it turns out that Euphoria Morning hasn't really changed over the past 16 years, but my ears have. It now has all the hallmarks of a Cornell piece of work, but a little something else in there too. It all has a personal touch and it's a really easy listen. So get on it. Bring Chris back into your ears.
