In a world where metalcore is basically oozing out of every pore of the music world, you have to worry about a band releasing an EP into the diluted market. Koshiro are doing just that though with their seven track EP, Crown Of Venom. Although, when you remove the intro and bonus track it's really a five track EP.

But is it any good? Well, I'd put it above a lot of metalcore out there, but that doesn't really answer the question. Once the two minute intro is out of the way, King Of Snakes opens with an interesting riff and some imperfect vocals. A promising start, although the shotgun style sound effects are a bit off putting. The song continues with the riff and vocals not really fitting together all that well, with the rhythm guitar adding to this later one, along with a couple more of those sound effects. It's not an awful start, the song is enjoyable enough, it just doesn't quite feel right and the 18 seconds of chanting the word "six" don't really hit the spot.

Necromancer is a step in the right direction though. The elements of hardcore that are brought in are nicely done and Sleeper Cell carries that on. The growled vocals sounding like they've been inspired by early Cancer Bats. The clean vocals on the other hand are still as raw as they were on King Of Snakes, not sounding overly produced, which is a brave move that pays off.

Creation Theory provides the highlight of the EP, it's a much more intense track than its predecessors. The verses are heavier and the riffs are bigger. It is just an all round better track than the rest of the EP and is followed by a melodic Catharsis. A track that shows there is a bit more to the band than just knocking out a few riffs. It brings in some interesting effects (more interesting than in King Of Snakes at least) and sounds like something Mad Capsule Markets might be responsible for. The bonus track is a cover of Chandlier by someone called Sia (No, I don't know either) and the least said about it the better.

Overall, this EP isn't going to win them any awards and probably won't get them much more attention in today's market. It's not all doom and gloom though, focusing on tracks like Creation Theory will see them push on a bit.
