Interview with Trash Mcsweeney from The Red Paintings

The Editor takes the to have a chat with art-rock creator Trash Mcsweeney about all things The Red Paintings.

First thing, can you introduce yourself and The Red Paintings?

Yea my name is Trash Mcsweeney. The Red Paintings is comprised of vocals, guitar, violin, cello, bass and drums. We collaborate sound and visuals to create a living canvas that stimulates the senses and transports the audience through an intergalactic art experience like no other. The ever-evolving stage show coincides with theatrical and artistic energy, which is integral to what we do. Press describing us as a "manic descent on a violent helter-skelter ride... grandiose absinthe-soaked delirium…".

We recently got a call for models and artists for your upcoming tour, can you explain that aspect of your show?

The live show features unique visual content; hypnotic projections alongside human body and canvas painters who join the band on stage to create live artworks that reflect the music and energy. Artists are sourced with the aim of finding struggling but talented painters and providing them with a new platform to showcase their work. The band’s one of a kind handmade cyber soldier/geisha costumes combined with the trademark live canvas and body painting never cease to impress audiences.

Do you still need people? If so, how can they get in touch?

Yes. We are still taking submissions for stage painters and human canvases to join us a part of our new show. Find details at www.theredpaintings.com or email us x3 of your art works and which show you would like to paint or be a Human canvas for and we will be in touch with more details. Artsubmissions@theredpaintings.com.

Talking of your tour, it sounds like you're offering something drastically different to a lot of bands, what's inspiring this?

I'm just trying to create what I don't see and feel out there in the "rock" world. Reinvent it, if that's even possible. My love of art from theatrical, music, painting is deep and I miss having one without the other so I combine it to make one world.

Do you go out to be 'different'? Or are you just combining the things you love?

It's just a natural progression. Who I am and how I'm built.

What are you most proud of?

The animal rights influence we have had on our fans I think is important. We are evolving into a more compassionate world now even if it is only a small movement. We believe all animals we share this planet with should be treated with more respect. Changing ones diet to vegan is one way to show you care. TRP as a band was built to educate and inspire.

Have there been any low points?

Too many to count. I'm actually writing a book about this.

What are the plans for the rest of the year and into 2016?

Up next UK tour followed by a tour to Japan then we go into music video production and kick off more touring around the globe.

On to something a little more light-hearted, if you could collaborate with anyone who would it be?

Bjork, Win Butler, Mark Ryden and Mercy for animals.

Where has been your favourite place to perform?

London! It's incredibly over populated this city but I do love being here and our London fans are always electric.

How about your least favourite?

Gold Coast, Australia.

Finally, is there anything else you'd like to say?

Do we have enough time?

Thanks very much for your time and best of luck for the future.

Thanks, you too!
