Before their set in Birmingham (our review of which is here) Daniel King had a chat with the 48hours lads in their tour minibus outside in the rain. We're classy like that.

Hi guys, thanks for sitting down for a chat with me, first of all, can you introduce yourselves.

I'm Gary, I play bass, I do samples and I sing backing vocals.

I'm Adam, I do guitar and vocals

I'm Matt and I do drums. Just drums...and sleep.

Gary: Yeah, he sleeps for all of us.

Someone's got to. Who would you say 48hours main influences are?

Gary: I'll let you answer that one Adam, since you write it all and we just make it better. Haha.

Adam: Yeah thanks. I dunno, I like to think there's a lot of different things going on. You've got bands like SOiL and Korn for the energy. Then the melodic side of it is from the more American hard rock stuff like Trapt and Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin. Then there's some stuff like Of Mice And Men and Linkin Park thrown in there.

Gary: Yeah for the mellower vocal side of it.

We hear a lot of Offspring in the vocals especially.

Gary: You've had that a lot actually.

Not so much on the new single, Forget, but on the album definitely.

Gary: Yeah there's a bit more of a punky influence on there, but not as much on the newer stuff.

Adam: Yeah it's very much more rock than punky.

Gary: It's not that we don't want to play the punkier style, we just want to play our style. That's why we're starting to phase a few of the punkier tracks out of the live set and bringing in a couple of new ones.

Has the tour gone well do far?

Matt: It's been really good.

Gary: Yeah we've shared the van with Ashestoangels which has been a bit of a laugh.

Matt: It's been a new experience for us.

Gary: It's new for them as well. They've not done it before and they've enjoyed it and we've had a good time with them. Crowds have been good.

Adam: We're playing a lot of places that we've either only played once, or never played before so it's good to have people coming down.

Matt: The sound's always impeccable in these places too.

Gary: Yeah, really good here and it was great at the Think Tank in Newcastle too.

I've heard good things about that place.

Gary: Yeah we love it there. We'll be back there in.....July.

Matt: Yeah July and we'll be back in Birmingham in July too.

Gary: And we'll be back in Birmingham in May too. You're probably gonna ask us this though.

Not now!

Gary: Job done then.

Yeah, moving on. You're meeting up with Ashestoangels again at Xfest in July.

Gary: Yeah we're meeting up with them again then. They're headlining the second stage, we're on the mainstage a bit lower down. It's gonna be a great day of rock music. Lots of new bands and a number of established bands. We're gonna be announcing the next wave of bands in the next few weeks.

Oh are you involved in the organisation of it?

Gary: I am yeah, so that's going to take a lot of plugging over the next 3 or 4 months. But it'll be worth it.

Have you looked at playing other festivals too?

Gary: Yeah we have, but getting on to them is always difficult. But we've got some new stuff that's almost ready. No date yet, but that should get us some more exposure.

Well that's another question gone.

Gary: ahh sorry! I was just trying to link it all in.

Efficient if nothing else. Ummm...where to go next?! Actually, that'll do, anywhere you haven't played yet that you really want to?

Adam: Scotland. We haven't played there yet.

Matt: Yeah, we've almost got to the border, but we've never quite breached it.

Gary: Hopefully we'll hit Glasgow or Edinburgh soon, but it won't be for a little while yet.

A little less serious now, seeing as you answered all my proper questions before I got chance to ask them. What was the first gig?

Adam: First gigs.

Matt: Was it the Red Lion? Yeah we did the Red Lion, but it was shit.

Gary: Yeah it was an all-dayer and we were on really early cause we were new and there was a show about 10 miles away that needed a band.

Matt: They called us up and the second one was a lot better than the first one.

Gary: That was June 2012.

And what's been the best gig?

Gary: Trapt?

Matt: Yeah Trapt.

Adam: Yeah, that or the Newcastle show of the Ourzone tour.

Gary: Playing with Trapt in Maidestone was pretty special because Matt loves them and we've all taken an influence from them.

Matt: It's good to have met them and know that they're really nice guys.

Alright, what's the weirdest thing that you've bought off the internet?

(Gary points at Matt)

Matt: What do you know that I don't?

Adam: It's gotta be Monty!

Matt: Oh god. I bought a rubber horse mask that we call Monty.

Obviously.

Matt: and I bought a pig one that's now festering in my garage. There was no reason for it either. I was just like 'you know what, I'm gonna get this horse mask. It's £15.' So yeah, weird sexual masks is the answer.

Oh wow, they're sexual as well. You know what, you're one weird farmyard mask away from being the new Slipknot.

Matt: The Farmyard Slipknot.

That could be your version of Cancer Bats' Bat Sabbath.

Adam: Can we get a goose?

Matt: Horse Pig Goose. It's a new game. No one will know our names, we'll just be known as the animals.

Adam: It'll be great. People will be like "I though the pig played guitar". "No, no, no it's the goose tonight."

I came to the wrong show, I need to see you guys in about 2 years.

Matt: When we've got the budget for more masks!

Definitely. Last one, Gary, Adam, you share vocals, but who's better?

Adam: He's got more range.

Gary: Yeah, I've got more range, but he's got more grit. More bollocks. I'm a bit more emo.

Adam: I grew up pretending to be Hetfield.

Matt: And now he's Dexter Holland.

Gary: They vocals work together really well. I do more of the harmonies live.

Adam: Yeah, I did some when we were recording. That's enough.

Awesome. Well that's it. Thanks very much for chatting to us and best of luck for the rest of 2015.
