A couple of weeks ago we were at Hit The Deck 2015 in Nottingham and we caught up with the entirity of Oceans Ate Alaska for a chat.

Hi guys, thanks for taking the time in this lovely hotel to have a chat with us. How was Bristol yesterday?

James Harrison (vocals): Great, we had a great turnout. It was the furthest venue away from the main stages so it was nice to see there were still quite a few people there for us. People were throwing down for us so yeah, it was really good.

Did you get chance to watch anyone else?

Mike Stanton (bass): All the stages were really spread out so it was hard to really see anyone else.

JH: Yeah and the second half of the day rained as well so if you wanted to walk between venues you just got soaked. We were stuck in the van all day.

Ah well we can’t be getting wet can we? Haha. So Nottingham today, played here before?

JH: Yeah played Rescue Rooms twice before. Not playing there today but we’re just around the corner.

And do you do anything different for festivals than you would do for the club shows?

James Kennedy (guitar): The set depends on where we’re at on the timeline. At the moment we’ve got a few singles that we haven’t been able to play. So it’s a completely different set. After this it’ll be different again.

JH: For festival you don’t get a soundcheck either so you just got on and go. So in that sense if there’s a technical problem you have to deal with it.

Which do you prefer club or festival dates?

Adam Zytkiewicz: I love festival dates cause to you get to see loads of other. You get to see bands you wouldn’t normally. It’s a more fun day out.

Got any more plans for the rest of the year?

JH: Yeah loads of plans in territories not yet covered.

Right, to make this a bit different and ensure no two interviews are the same, we’ve got a pack of cards with a load of random questions on. Pick your first one:

*JH picks 9 of spades* Ok, good starter, who is your favourite Muppet?

AZ: That’s such a tough one. Cookie Monster.

JH: I like Kermit.

Chris Turner (drums): I like the one that just stands there next to the Chef and doesn’t say anything.

JH: Beaker. I think we’ll go with Cookie Monster as a band.

Ok, you're on a 9 higher or lower?

JK: higher

JH: Higher? What are you on about? LOWER!

Lower? Ok, 5 of diamonds. Who is your favourite actress?

JK: Sandra Bullock

JH: No Sandra Bullock’s a liar. It’s a known fact.

JK: Jennifer Aniston.

JH: No fuck that man. It’s…oh I’ve forgotten her name now. Natalie Portman. She’s very bae.

AZ: I’m keeping out of this one.

Ok, 5. Higher or lower?

JK: I’ll keep quiet now.

JH: higher.

10 of clubs. Follow any sports teams?

JK: Birmingham City

JH: I’m a West Bromwich Albion fan. Best team in the Midlands.

AZ: What? Your days in the band are numbered.

Alright, lower? 6 of hearts. Weirdest Amazon/Ebay/internet?

JH: A live praying mantis. It’s dead now, they only live for 6 months or something.

AZ: I bought a rabbit with a mustache.

A live one?

AZ: No. The mustache was sick though. There was no reason for it.

CT: My weirdest one was I wanted a new *kick trigger* but my internet was so slow so I used it to buy a new router for faster internet and then bought it.

So you used internet to buy internet? Alright then. Higher or lower?

JH: Lower.

8 of hearts. Favourite album at the moment?

MS: I'm gonna have to say Enter Shikari Take The Skies.

CT: For me it's Let the Ocean Take Me by The Amity Affliction. Brilliant album.

AZ: You could ask me this question tomorrow and I’d give you a different answer. I’m gonna go with Hate by Thy Art Is Murder.

JH: Oooh cheeky.

Ok, on an 8.

JH: Lower.

Oh, it's the 8 of clubs. We’ll go with it. Favourite Game Of Thrones character?

MS: I don’t watch it.

Right you’re out of the rest of the interview.

JH: He’s not my favourite character, but Joffrey rode past me on a bike in Edinborough.

Did you punch him in the face?

JH: I was with the GF and I was just “look, look!” I almost dropkicked him. I was so tempted, fuck you Joffrey.

JK: My favourite’s Tyrion Lannister. Him and his sellsword Bronn. The banter is just the best.

Ok on an 8 again.

JH: Lower

4 of spades. If you were on Mastermind, what would you specialist subject be?

JH: Mine would be the natural world cause I just know everything about animals. These guys probably don't even know what Mastermind is.

Fair enough, we'll move on. On a 4.

JH: Higher.

Ahhh it's a 3. Game over! Well. thanks very much for this guys. Best of luck for the set and the rest of the year.

JH: Brilliant. Thanks very much.
