Twitter:

A new bassist has jumped onto the Bright Curse ship and we caught up with them to see how things are going and what they are planning for the future.

Firstly, tell us a bit about Bright Curse.

Zach: Bright Curse is finally up and running for real. For real. It feels good, we've been looking for a balance for a while, I think we found it.
Romain: We wrote a couple of epic songs with Max our new bass player, and will record that and go for a lil' tour before attacking the album later this year.

Max, how are you settling in? Zach, Romain, how is it having Max in the band?

Max: I’m really just enjoying the ride! There is a lot of heavy riffmaking and badass grooves in the making right now, so it’s busy times!

Zach: I think he’s great. He isn’t smelly and he can groove. Top man.

What has he brought to the frame that is gonna push Bright Curse forwards?

Romain: I think, with Max on the four strings, it's more about the vibe and feeling than before, he knows a lot about rocking the shit out of a riff but also thinks that "Animals" is the best Pink Floyd album. So, the guy knows about good melodies as well, he's part of the brotherhood now.

Can you let us in on any of the influences that have brought Bright Curse together?

Romain: It all started with the Dopesmoker re-edition from Sleep, at that time I was trying to reform my ol' vintage rock band Soul Manifest in London, but it never really worked out so I tried something heavier after listening to Dopesmoker a lot.

I’m a Pink Floyd big fan, for their melodies and psychedelic parts, I also love bands like Leaf Hound, Betty Davis, Black Sabbath of course, more recently All them Witches, Graveyard, and I recently discovered Death Hawks, and they are pretty awesome!
I realize now that I still have that vintage vibe inside me, The Shaman will surprise most of our fans I think, actually. I hope so! If you can surprise your fanbase while maintaining it at the same time, it means you are not boring. We don't wanna be boring.

You have an EP coming out soon, can you tell us a bit about it?

Romain: We wrote a new song with Max in December called "The Shaman", we'll release that song as a single alongside another song, "Fear the Lord", that we originally wrote with JB Pilon and rearranged with Max's groove.

Zach: We are super impatient to release something to celebrate the new lineup. We’ve arranged everything as quickly as we can, it’s super DIY and I can’t wait to hear and see the final product.
Max: It’s a half-half mix of old and new Bright Curse. Some sweet riffs and some psychedelic moments. I really hope our friends all over the world will enjoy it as much as I do!

Bright Curse has been alive for a couple of years now, what's been the highlight?

Romain: For me it was the tour with Trippy Wicked and Wight in UK, and the gig we played with Colour Haze, Pentagram, Radio Moscow, Truckfighters and many more at Up In Smoke festival organised by Sound of Liberation in 2013.

Zach: Same here! We had a great time recording our first EP and setting up everything for the band, but the live shows and going on the road was truly the highlight.

Do you have any plans for 2015 that you can let us in on?

Zach: We’re set to play several shows in Germany/Belgium and France in April with Elephant Tree. Then we will plan a physical release for the EP. Also, we are going to spend a lot of time writing.

You're present on a few social media sites, how important has it been for you?

Zach: It’s important for us to be on a few social media sites to reach out to our followers and from a marketing point of view. We haven’t reached a point yet where we get to connect a lot with our fans but this will come. For now, we connect while on the road and I’m confident, soon, we will make Facebook, Twitter and Instagram a lot more fun for us and our fans.

Finally, if you could book your own tour, who would you have playing with you?

Max: I would really like to go on tour with Orange Goblin, that’s some of the best heavy music around right now!

Romain: Captain Beyond! (You didn’t precise if the band needs to be active ;) )
Zach: That’s so hard to answer… I think Graveyard would be incredible, Kverlertak would be so much fun and Rival Sons would be so groovy. There you have it, we open for all those guys!

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us. All the best for 2015.

No Problem, thank you for the interview! See you soon on the road!
