I Divide have done some serious touring over the past 12 months. We had a chat with them to talk social media, why they do what they do and album number 2.

First off, who are I Divide and what do you do?

I Divide are a 5 piece rock group from Exeter

Why do you do it? Who/what inspired you to pick up your instruments and start this band?

We do it, because we love playing music and expressing ourselves that way. There’s nothing better than playing your songs live and having fans from across the continent singing them back. We pick up our inspiration from all different artists. From Michael Jackson, to Matt Heafy.

You toured with The Dirty Youth towards the back end of 2014, that was a great advert for up and coming British bands. How has it been being on the road with them?

It was awesome being on the road with them guys and girl! We learnt a lot of new things with them, also made new friends too. We really get on with touring as a band, we find the lifestyle suits our needs perfectly.

You guys are probably the most active band I’ve seen on places like Twitter, how important has social media been to you?

It's fairly important to us as it's the new age way of reaching out to new fans and staying in close contact with your current fans too. It's not just about the music anymore, it's about being the members in their shoes.

You opened a stage at Download festival a couple of years ago and were going round asking people to come to your set in fancy dress, how did that go down and did many turn up in fancy dress?

Ha yeah, we decided it would be great to get as many people as we possibly can to come down to see out set in fancy dress. It was such an amazing experience; we hope to be back there in the near future.

Your debut album, Last One Standing, was made available for streaming a week before it’s general release. A lot of bands are doing this now, why do you feel that this is becoming the trend and why did you decide to do it?

It's a good way to get attention to your band just before the week of sales. It's also a good way to interact and reach out to a new audience too. You can't cut corners in this game, everything is a possibility. We’re also only too aware that everyone likes everything for free. We live in a world where unless people can consume with one click, you have a good chance of it never being heard. You gotta do what you gotta do!

You’ve been around for 3 years now, what’s been the highlight?

Very good question, I think playing 2nd stage at Download festival all our 16 year selves are like "OMG! You're playing 2nd stage!"

You were one of Destroy Everything Records flagship bands, how has it been working with those guys?

Yeah it's been fantastic, they're a great, supportive team to have behind us. They had taken us under their wing, and helped so much with this album campaign.

You’ve toured with bands like Funeral For A Friend and Yashin, have you learnt anything from those guys?

Yeah, work hard, play hard! These bands have been in the industry for some time now, so learning their moves and taking advice is something we have walked away with, from touring with these bands.

What does the next 12 months hold for I Divide?

We're now off the road at the moment, back to our home studio working on the foundations of album two. Once we’ve made some real headway in the writing, we’ll be back out on the road playing to as many people as possible!

Finally, what would be the ultimate tour for you guys to get on?

Most likely something like Foo Fighters would be the ultimate tour!

Thanks for taking the time out to talk to us and best of luck for 2015.
