2015 sees Kadavar turn 5 and the release of their third album and second with Nuclear Blast. For those unfamiliar with Kadavar's first couple of releases you can expect to hear doom style riffs combined with progressive elements. Building on that sound, Berlin brings a bit more 'heavy metal' to the fore, drawing even more heavily on bands like Sabbath.

One thing that is for sure is that Berlin feels like a step up in quality from a band that already brought a certain class to proceedings. The set pieces in the opening track Lord Of The Sky are the first indication of this. Blistering solos and catchy riffs are on the menu from the off. With the opening of Last Living Dinosaur carrying this on, with a little homage to Black Sabbath thrown in for good measure at the start.

The rest of the album continues in the same vein. Retro feeling songs recorded in a way that feels like you might well have drifted back half a century. Impressively though, it never feels outdated, just that they're taking their influences from days gone by. Filthy Illusion being a prime example, if you found out that the track was released in the 70s you wouldn't be surprised, similarly the opening of Pale Blue Eyes sounds like something Eric Clapton could have written.

So, if you want to take a trip back a few decades with a band in terms of style then you're in the right place. These guys are truly worthy of bringing that sound back around and fit in a treat in an ever growing market of 'classic blues rock' sounding bands.
