Introducing:

Subterranean Popular

By Daniel King - 24 January 2015

Subterranean Popular are:

Dan - Guitar/Vocals

Sid - Bass

Mel - Drums

When you get an email from a band claiming to be a 'multi-gendered, guy fronted, 3-piece riot-grrl rock band' you can't help but be intrigued. Mainly by the 'multi-gendered' part, but still the interest was sparked and I was introduced for the first time to Subterranean Popular.

For fans of The Pixies, Sonic Youth and to some extent Nirvana, these guys are putting their own spin on a decades old genre by throwing their own brand of indie rock into the mix. These guys are the perfect band for you if you miss that raw, edgey feel to a track that late 80's grunge brought. The playlist below showcases some of their earlier tracks, showing off their strong basslines and rough around the edges vocals.

Essence sounds like they've taken the guitars of a Pixies song, mixed them with vocals inspired by Kurt Cobain and added on to a simple drum beat. In fact, most of their tracks start with a strong bassline and take off from their.

These guys have got some real talent and could do with your help to push on. Get listening to them, go and see them live and start sharing them with your friends, family and anyone you know that loved baggy striped jumpers.

We sent an interview off via email to the Subterranean Popular guys to send back to us to be put up in print, but they weren't content with that. Below you can see the interview that they recorded and edited themselves. If that isn't a reason to like these guys, I don't know what is:
