Lost Atlanta, A five piece Post-Hardcore band from Manchester. The Manc five-some have been going for around 2 years now, lighting up the north. They are releasing their EP Alive on the 9th October. Here are my thoughts on their new recording.

My first thought is how great the quality of the recording is. I’m not sure what I was expecting but it’s extremely crisp. You can hear every note from every instrument. I couldn’t find who produced this but they have done a cracking job!

James Drake’s singing is similar to Matt Tuck of Bullet for My Valentine, some great vocal harmonies involved in the chorus’, some with shouting underlays which add to the prominence. The shouting fits the genre perfectly. It’s exactly what you would expect from a Post-Hardcore band and the frontman doesn’t disappoint.

Lost Atlanta have extremely catchy choruses which stand out in particular during the very first song called Alive on the EP. Exactly what you want. Something for people to sing or shout along to a gigs.

The guitars have a noticeable sound which rings throughout the Post-Hardcore genre, great sound. Some nice complex riffs overlay the chug of the rhythm. Guitarists Elliott Robertson and Sam Lomax getting free reign to properly show off on this EP and they do not disappoint, big head banding rhythms and sexy overlays and harmonies which would make Clapton wet!

Drums (Sam Rees) and Bass (Rob Bashford) are very well produced. Not over complicated, they complement the guitars extremely well. I wouldn’t say they stand out much though. I would have liked to have heard a few conspicuous fills here and there from both of them.

Distractions has a very catchy chorus, with the help of former Trigger The Bloodshed and Heart In Hand frontman Charlie Holmes. Crunching riffs adding to the aggression of this track.

Losing Sight is also a stand out track for me. A tune I can see many people singing along to. I hear a fluttering of Bring Me The Horizon influences in places but not enough to take away their own sound.

The EP finishes with a track called These Words. The start is very mellow with a sample of an old man and goes into Drake singing, eventually it kicks in with a big emotional riff to add to the mellow start. Once again another big catchy chorus to get your feels going! The outro being a crowd singing the chorus with the band. A very nice touch to finish off.

This has been a great listen. I’m not sure what I was expecting to begin with but I’m really impressed. If you’re a fan of Post-Hardcore, these guys don’t disappoint.

Alex's recommended track: These Words

For fans of: Bring Me The Horizon, Alexisonfire, Asking Alexandria

Can you see these guys in the UK?: They've just finished a UK tour, but it seems these guys don't seem to stay at home for long.
